Session Notes

Group at the boathouse includes a small halfling boy and the barber.

A - fondest memories of my mother: tending to the temple, gathering water, arranging candles, etc while she told me stories of the goddess

Flashback to gathering water in White Branch. Almost sacred silence between us. We reach the hill that the well is on. She kisses her thumb and presses it to my forehead before we kneel to thank the goddess for providing for us. She speaks to me about my new cut on my neck, it’s partially healed, only a few days old.

“You have much to be thankful for though it may not seem like it. What these others, though they serve the goddess, they do not and cannot understand. What you have, some will say it is a curse. Do you feel that way?”

I say “sometimes.”

“Sometimes a gift can seem likea curse in the wrong light. Althojght she doesn’t preside over the sun, the armth is pleasant, it’s life bringing. The sun would be out of place in blinding at night. A gift of night may seem out of place in the sun. you’re actions choose the path you travel. Here, i know you’re at a tough age, in more ways than one. I went and spoke to the blacksmith yesterday. You’re growing to be a strong young woman, ayana. I wish there was more i could give you.”

She takes a pendant off her neck I didn’t notice was there. Beautiful, iridescent, many colors and misty trapped in moonlight. She puts it around my neck and it glows a little. “Sometimes we can control our gifts and sometimes we need a little help. This will help you when you don’t want to show everyone. It helps you choose when, it night not always work. I want to make it easier for you.”

We finish gathering water and head down the hill. I’m holding the pendant and noticing the contradictions I feel. I’m brought to the present by a voice yelling out. Sitting there holding my pendant absentmindedly.

Man stands at the foot of a staircase yelling about his dead son. Young distracted woman sitting in the chair, looks uncomfortable. Two older men flanking her, one is ostentatious, The Wizard Argyle, silver hair and lots of jewelry, interesting beard. Other one is in plain garb, clean shaven, short hair, holding a staff and wearing the symbol of The Order of Bright Fire.

“Duke magnor is a good man, he would know my pain, his sons, your brothers…”

Woman yells “DO NOT speak of my brothers, i would kill the man that ran them through”

The bishop, John Apricus,  in plain garb interrupts her “Lady Eurella Magnor, means to say though we cannot bring your son back, perhaps ther is recompense”

Lord Rush’s men were the ones to accuse and kill this man’s son. The wizard Argyle says recompense will be in the form of 3 farmhands. The man isn’t happy with this.

On my NAT 20 from last session, I’m feeling uneasy, i see a staircase to my left and can tell it leads to the dungeons. I slink off at the height of drama. Moss and Mac do notice my absence but stay in the hall.

G - standing in a wet, earthy smelling cellar with 9 other people. Dwarf asks why Barry has brought a “beggar in a fur coat with a bad haircut” The barber is a little offended.

Barry asks why he changed and hits on G again.

Tall silver haired woman cuts Barry off saying the wellbeing of her family is at stake.

Guard says “we are a group of concerned citizens that are here to make right what the powers that be have made wrong.”

Taller woman “ we are all victims of the powers of Might, they’re liberal in their judiciousness. My husband was wrongly taken to the Iron Eye for a crime he didn’t commit.”

Barry - “if you go to appeals court, you could be seen as a disrupter of the peace.”

The guard is conflicted, wants to do what’s right but doesn’t know what “right” is.

Tall woman, Bogan, is suspicious of Gnorman and doesn’t believe he can do any magic.

G - produces a minor illusion of a bronze dragon in his palm but it makes an elephant sound. Is being questioned about what he’s capable of doing

Introductions of everyone in the cellar- will have to get from Jesse

“Apprehension of elves coming from mount moondrop isn’t right” - the baker?

Halfling kid - his dad is in the Iron Eye, Barry said he would owe him a favor if he helped.

Spike the “barber”

G is flabbergasted that they all think he can help without knowing him or really seeing all he can do.

Bogan is concerned about E, who is waiting upstairs, G says he would trust her with anything, but his friends will be concerned if he just runs off, they have a knack of finding him.

E is standing outside thinking about G’s possible sexual encounter. Sees 5 people in armour coming down the road, one is Jay, the guard E talked to earlier, another is an older gentleman.

E approaches them, knows not to linger too long outside the boathouse, it will look suspicious

Older guard is a Lieutenant, he’s suspicious of E being out at this location. E introduces herself and tells the Lt she’s out there waiting for G to have his romantic moment. 16 PERSUASION Jay seems to believe her. Lt. points to a different boathouse and says they should continue their conversation inside. The 3 unnamed guards start looking at other boathouses downriver.

E, Jay, and Lt. go into boathouse that has some longboats in it. There’s a table inside and Jay pulls a bottle of whiskey from the floorboards. Lt. Aeryth Farr asks why she is here. E tells them about our quest to find what has happened to Prince Rowan and try to reverse it.

Lt tries to get E to stay and help out around town. She declines and laments the removal of guards especially from the Iron Eye. Lt says it was under order from King Volth himself that there be a removal of guards. CRIT FAIL insight check if he’s telling the truth. He sideyes Jay, E misses it. NAT 20 CON SAVE her second shot just continues to warm her and she’s excited about G getting his succy

Lt trusts E to check out the boathouse that G is in

G is drawing out plans as E knocks “have you finished?” Bogan tells G to keep the plan limited, only tell who you need to. We could all end up locked in the Iron Eye. Early tomorrow is when we will strike.

G asks if the guard down there is trustworthy, Bogan “i trust him more than i trust you” talks with the dwarf about paying G. they agree to to 50 gold, with reluctance from the dwarf.

A makes her way to the dungeons 15 perception to hear anything ahead of me. The loudest noises are behind me from court, I can’t hear very much. Hunch of lowered guard is correct. Can hear some humming from a man further in.

I hit the floor and turn into a guards room, 2 guards sitting at a table playing cards. They’re young 18 insight they look at me half startled but relax at the sight of my armour. They stand at attention as I come in. I don’t think they’re normally down here.

I tell them there was a disturbance upstairs in the court and I was sent down to grab them and relieve them. They leave and I find a ledger in the guard room. Many names are crossed out with a note of them going to Iron Eye or Hanged. Marth the blacksmith is the only person down here for treason. No Mornathel, but there are 10 or so elves that were all sent to Iron Eye.

I quickly make my way down to Marth, he’s humming in the middle cell. His tunic is torn, he’s disheveld, clothes are soiled. I tell him Qitha is looking for him. He has a black eye. He’s in for fighting with a plainsclothed guard. Probably off to Iron Eye like the elves this morning.

I make my way back upstairs, get caught by the guards that I sent upstairs. One of them stays upstairs with me and kind of threatens to watch me while the other goes back down to the dungeon. I go back to Moss and Mac

Old lady is in the middle of her long tale about her grandson seeking lost dragon treasure. Gets interrupted by the Bishop. Will write to the duke out there to send a search party for her grandson.

Small balding halfling man in plate armour with a shortsword and shield emblazoned with one large hill, Ser Ornel Parrion. Lady Eurella welcomes him here and commends him for his service to the crown. Pleads for his people. Tells her about an invasion of goblins in the Haffles, look like orcs but are the size of us, pouring in from the east, the Sheershells. There’s been many of our people that have come through fleeing these beasts. We are looking for assistance in defending our land, anything you can give. We are also you people, we call upon the duke to aide us as we muster up in Eskel.

Lady Eurella sympathizes with Ser Ornel. You’re right, you are denizens of magnorum like the rest of us. Had we the men and provisions, we would’ve been there already. The plight of the halflings isn’t the only plight of this day and age. We will provide what we can but cannot promise it will be enough. The wizard Argyle says they can part with provisions, possibly arms and armour, not men. There’s a logistical issue of sending men into Halfling sized holes.

Ser Ornel pleads with everyone in the room. Mac volunteers. The wizard Argyle announces that anyone who helps will be gifted 15 gold per head upon arrival in Eskel.

We’re up next - Mac takes the lead as he’s a knight. The wizard Argyle knows who Ser Norman is and gives condolences. Mac asks about access to the library, Lady Eurella gives it as she walks off, over her duties for the day. We’re the only people that didn’t ask for men or revenge, she’s glad to let us look at the library.

The court adjourns and A, Mac, and Moss head out to the double gates wondering where G and E are.

E and G are walking back to town, G hasn’t had anywhere close to 50 gold ever in his life. He’s sweating in his fur coat.

We all meet up and go to eat dinner at The Thatch and Rose. Little more upscale than The Drowned Minnow.

We catch up on what happened decide to try to do everything. Hit up the library first.

Mac approaches first. The two guards at the gate are the ones that A tried to Bamboozle. One of them leads us to the library. Stepping into the library, the guard says “good luck” it’s a mess of a library, absolutely no organization. There’s a small guy sitting at a table, wearing an Arcanade robe, must have graduated somewhat recently. His table is the messiest spot in the room.

Wizard Morley, newly appointed archivist. Trying to clean up someone else’s mess.

I show him the book that we have from the Arcanade that says there will be more info in Might. Wizard Morley doesn’t know where any books would be, tells us to talk to the old Lore Keeper, Stella who retired to Eskel.

We terrorize Morley and G knocks over 28 books from the shelf and a half that he’s organized.
