Mac makes Con saving throw, 16, the women try to lure him out of the bar to their farmhouse. Mac continues drinking and is vibe checking the tavern after leaving the girls.
A is taking stock of the bar, seeing if there are any outwardly antagonistic people around after remembering talking to the priestesses
Mac NAT 20 PERCEPTION the bar is rowdy, curfew is normally around midnight but it’s 1am and people are still out. Dancing and drinking heavily. Similar vibes as the pigtail tavern without the shadiness. People just letting loose. Overhear talk between older man, fisherman, talking to innkeeper Kenway
Kenway looks interested in what he’s saying. “Doesn’t effect our clientele, having elves. Not a lot of elves elsewhere.” “The prince has fallen asleep, any elf that comes in is getting questioned and taken into the guard towers.” “nothing much for me to worry about, only seen a couple elves the past weeks anyway”
A hears general info, rumbling of monsters and halfling refugees on the roads. I hear a dwarf that was gambling talking to man “if it’s not happening now it will b esoon, everything is bubbling over” “the vibe here is very tumultuous, lot of happy people, free spirits. Feels like a boot is getting off the neck here, seen this before in Chitin Bay. We might be in for a treat without all the guards here” “seems like half of them have gone down to crestin, one of them for every 6 of us, feels like now is the time” “might help you, good luck either way” man walks away and nods to a table that all leave together
SUMMARY: confirmed suspicions about the elves being profiled and detained, sizable chunk if not half of the guard left to crestin to reinforce the capital. Request to all the duccal seats to take a huge chunk of the guards to supplement at Crestin. Rumblings about a resistance centered in the town of Eskle, north of here. Conversation about gallows and gibbets being set up and cleaned up in the town square.
E is playing 3 dragon ante in the corner. Sets up a tournament, some of the dwarves come over to play with her.been a rough couple of weeks, just wants to let loose a little and exchange stories. Joking around with the dwarves
G goes up to the scariest looking guy with a bunch of knives, thinking he’s a barber, asking for a haircut. (Everyone tells barbers their secrets) Man asks if he wants a haircut up top or on the bottom. G “I don’t have any hair down below”. His dad used to be a barber but he’s “more of a butcher” roughly takes hunks of his hair and gives him a hack job. G has to get money from E to pay the guy. Just asks him if he’s seen any shady characters about. Asks for money before giving any information. Tells him about the guard leaving “can have a lot of fun without them” What’s exciting is what’s been brewing here. “Have you heard of the Iron Eye?”
NAT 20 HISTORY CHECK from E: her bread and butter is royalty, issues of state, guards and laws and stuff. Iron Eye is an eyelend SW of Might that has a large stone prison on it. Surrounded by rushing water of the primflow. Closest thing to Alcatraz, hard to get in or out. People are sent there just below beheading or hanging, political prisoners. High security island prison, not necessarily tortured.
Barber: “ther’s been a development in the security of iron eye. One place where guard hasn’t been reduced. The guard in might is reduced so it makes it easier for us to organize. A lot of us have family and friends that have been taken to iron eye as a deterrent for the rest of us. We may have found something to help them get out.”
Moss - notices that everyone has kind of spread out to do their own thing. Follows their lead by spreading out to a corner. Just going to drink and enjoy a day off. Sit with her own thoughts, something she doesn’t do much anymore. The bar noise moves to the background. Gets a strange feeling, i do just have my thoughts here. Feels like she’s missing something. Wisdom saving throw 12: feels wood of the bar, and barstool which are both dead. The stone floor isn’t necessarily dead but insulating. Has a pulse of her surroundings for miles around and it’s made of stone. Hard to hear “His” thoughts. When she doesn’t hear nature, there’s no connection to him, but harder to do things she’s used to doing because of him. Feeling disconnected and frea but vulnerable. Lives witha very protective dog that is intense but feels like she went on a walk without him, can reestablish connection with effort if she wants to. Decides to relax instead of reestablishing connection. Reflect on the last couple of days to the moments she was conscious.
Stone woman, yellow eyes, standing over G, green flames, cruel blades, small creatures, a rabbit with horns. The rabbit must be Him but is confused. She knows something He doesn’t. He is powerful but maybe not as powerful as He thinks He is. Spends rest of the night zoned out.
Next morning, G is trying to find somewhere to make money
A wants to go to the blacksmith shop
Mac and E want more info about what’s happening up in Eskle
Moss is busking in the town square, pretty limited amount of entertainment. Sets up to play violin. 13 performance check lot of vendors around, children, teens, young adults milling about. Large keep casting a shadow over the square surrounded by a wall. Gallows with 6 nooses set up, empty gibbets. Starts fiddling, children dancing around and parents stopping to listen. Makes 9 copper, 2 silver, and 5 gold
G notices not a lot of people buying wares but they are eager for entertainment. Not much need for an arcanist but maybe a magician. Doing magic tricks for kids that are around the square. DIRTY 20 PERFORMANCE CHECK making kids laugh, dazzling the crowd. Group of men that come by and sit and watch for a bit. They walk up and place money on the piece of sleeve that G has ripped off. Uses disguise self to turn into the man, skinny bald man, to thank him and entertain the kids. 19 PERFORMANCE CHECK The man, Barry’s, friends are laughing and clapping. Barry says “i enjoy a man witha particular set of skills. Enjoy” and walks away.
G dispells the disguise self to scare the kids away. Goes into his “meeting cone” to investigate the bag, 14 copper and 11 silver and a folded scrap of paper. It says “Boathouse noon today” DIRTY 20 INSIGHT CHECK to see if there’s a meeting or a sexual proposition, little of both.
Moss walks up to G to compare their wares. G says he’s going to meet a man in the boathouse. Moss “i didn’t know you swam that way”
Mac and E head up to the guard tower to see what’s happening in Eskle. Don’t get stopped by anyone, they walk into the keep. Main doors into the stronghold are closed. There is a line of people waiting and they can hear swords clanking further off. Old woman mentions she’s in line to talk to the duke. He’s holding open court once a week. She’s traveled from Harpsburg to talk to him. Her grandson has gone off to try to find some dragon treasure 2 fortnights ago. Needs the army to help find him. Other people in line are skinny farmers and pissed off people. Kind of the vibe of a city council meeting on Parks and Rec. See a balding halfling man at the front of the line in a suit of armor with a sword on his back.
E steps out of line to try to talk to local guards to get the scuttlebutt of what’s going on. Mac stays in line. E heads to the training yard to assess situation there. Sees a bunch of young squires doing light sparring. This is very underwhelming, the guards worth the reputation that Might has are headed down the primflow towards Crestin. Largest girl walks up to E asks if she’s a lady knight due to her fancy armour. Introduces herself as Jay and asks if E wants to spar. E tries to get info from Jay about the Iron Eye. Jay “the townsfolk in Might are harder to bend compared to other places I’ve been. If they’re openly talking about Iron Eye inthe taverns at night, we’re fucked.” there’s been an increase in the numbr of prisoners there in the last couple months.
E goes back to find mac, feeling like she messed up big time.
A heads to the blacksmith’s shop, finds it pretty easily. The forge is cold, 17 PERCEPTION CHECK go into forge area, door to the house is closed. Windows are shut. The forge is totally cold, hasn’t been run for a couple days. 15 STEALTH CHECK looks like there was intention of them coming in today, stuff was set aside. I hear footsteps on the stone behind me. Qitha is behind meholding a hammer up. Asks where her husband, Marth, is “didn’t he come back to fight with you? He usually gets drunk and passes out somewhere or goes off to fight someone. Kenway hasn’t seen him either. If you see him, tell him to come home or let me know.” I help her start up the forge and ask if he got in trouble with anyone else of the guard. She hasn’t heard anything about organizing against the guard. She isn’t very well connected in town. I ask about a holy woman being detained. She doesn’t know about anything other that people who were detained in town are usually held at the keep. I thank her for her info and tell her that I’ll send her husband her way if I see him. We find out we both grew up learning the blacksmithing trade from our dads
NAT 20 INVESTIGATION to see if I can find an entrance or any sign of where the dungeon is. Half windows leading off to a side building that’s a thicker part of the curtain wall. No entrance from the outside, likely from the inside. A walks up to Mac and E
Moss and G are wrapping up their busking. G has money for the first time in a while and wants to go get a new robe. Finds a tailor shop, no obvious wizards robes, mostly shifts, clergy robes and fancy brocade and satin robes. Approaches the tailor about repairing his current robe since it will likely take too long to sew all the needed pockets on a new robe.
The tailor will repair and launder it, throw in the pockets for free. Underneath the robe is just mostly elbows and knobbly joints, in his undies. Not a single hair anywhere on his body. G grabs a fur coat to borrow while it’s being laundered and repaired. They head up to the keep to join the rest of the group.
E and G head off to the boathouse. Man comes out the side of thebuilding holding a long trumpet and plays a fanfare. Announces the opening of this weeks dukely court hearings. The large double doors open and we start shuffling through the palace.
E and G head back through the artisan area and head south down to the boathouses. Goes to the last one and finds Barry standing there. He walks into the boathouse and G follos him in. E waits outside. Barry heads downstairs to the lower level. There’s a small group of 8-9 other people. Some women, a merchant, a clean cut guard looking type. Introduces G to the group as a “wonderful magical man” says “this man is going to be our ticket into the Iron Eye”
