Session Notes

We’re planning our next move at the tavern, G is going to try to do some magical trickery to make it seem like someone else is ordering before ordering it themselves

Group of halfling women come into the inn PERCEPTION CHECK seem to be late teens early 20s they’re excited about someone playing at the tavern tonight, someone named Punder. One of the girls, Maybelline, is in a love triangle with 2 guys, Bronco and Torden, fighting over her. I have heard of Punder around White Branch. G has seen him perform on the road to Crestin 4 years ago. Popular among halflings, plays the Lute and is quite handsome.

G and Mac are going to spread the word of this guy around town. G will make a minor illusion of Punder’s head to advertise for his show.

A and E are going to investigate the Slaughterhouse. A mile outside of town, wide array of barns, the pig smell is much stronger here almost overwhelming. Walk up to a longer barn, workers carting stuff around wheelbarrows. Farmers leading squealing pigs around. Nondescript building. INSIGHT CHECK thinking back to when we got attacked, thing that stuck out was they all had grey, sweatstained shirts. Not quite a uniform but similar in that fashion. Everyone we see is wearing similar attire. HISTORY CHECK E got a Nat 20: although she grew up adjacent to royalty, has always been cognizant of workers around crestin. This grey top is cheapest, most common garb for everyone to wear. Seems that no matter who these people are, they are all workers/peasants. Cant’ tell if this is a danger or if the people that attacked us were from a similar socioeconomic standpoint. A lot of people in White Branch dress this way, just the most common undyed cloth.

We walk around building, not noticing anything other than normal slaughterhouse goings on. We visually investigate the pit of refuse and unusable parts. Don’t find any human parts but there’s a dagger, simple leather wrapped handle. I grab it with my mess kit cup to rinse/investigate later.

Gordon - worker comes to dump some slop and caught us at the pit. Came from Spilot, just around the bend, ducal seat of Maperly. Used to be a farmer with his father, farm was taken by the duchess. E is flustered by him and ends up leaving rudely due in part to him and mostly because of the stench. He says he’ll see us later at the tavern for Punder’s show if we’re still in town as we’re walking away.

We walk to the stream and I rinse the large chunks off the knife. There’s still a sheen of oil but there are dark splotches on the leather handle. I wrap it up and put it in my bag.

G and Mac put flyers up all around the town square. Mac has been keeping an eye out for any halfling men fighting. 1 day up the road is halfling capital of Hillock so there is a lot of halfling traffic around. Mac has mostly seen excited halflings coming into town. Punder isn’t hugely famous but is popular amongst halflings.

G does an oddly realistic perfect recreation of Punder’s head and people are shocked and ooh and aah, a good amount of kids are crying. He stays there and announces “Free Ale for the first 100 people” FULLY A LIE

Someone taps G on his shoulder, large armoured man. Person that came into the Cottoneye Inn earlier. Tall in mid 40s and asks what G is doing. Ser Nadon Fairwether captain of the guard asks for G and Mac’s names. Mac flashes his knight’s ring, his and Ser Nadon’s rings glow blue. Haven’t heard of free ale at the pig’s tail, maybe when gonzo was the proprietor. You will need to let the guard know before doing this kind of spectacle again.

Mac asks about Gonzo, Ser Nadon reiterates what A and E heard about the Changers. Strange fellows have come into the tavern recently. INSIGHT CHECK G notices Ser Nadon narrows his eyes and seems to not be saying what’s on his mind. G and Mac get him to say “no trouble yet but seem to be whispers of it on the horizon. No fighting or drunkards about town. Been curtailed in the past several months while the tavern is under the new ownership of Stuart Perch from Cistellan. Stuart was once a soldier stationed in Barbican, has become an entrepreneur in retirement. HIs presence in town has brought interesting clientele. You wouldn’t notice if you were just traveling through, but living here there are many people i’ve never seen coming in in grey shirts, more people every day but don’t see them much after. Bad feeling in my gut about it. This is half of my force in town only 9 of us altogether. An extra sword would do me well if things come to a head. If you’re going to be at the bar tonight, your cooperation would be appreciated, i’ve been wanting to make a move. Can we count on you to help out?” G and Mac offer their help if there is any trouble.

G disguises self before we go in - one foot taller so he can look Mac in the eye, wearing peasant outfit, slightly longer hair. We walk towards the tavern and see a group of oarmen mad there isn’t any free beer.

We walk in and grab a table, can see the halfling girls from earlier and Mac notices the man next to Maybelline is staring daggers at a halfling across the room. Ser Rodger is in the same spot flanked by other knights and his head is down and swaying slightly. PERCEPTION CHECK been a while since G has been in a rowdy bar and is overstimulated. E doesn’t see anything out of the ordinary, does notice the clientele is mostly humans and halflings except for one half-elven man at the end of the bar writing and drinking wine. Has his bow on the ground leaning on his leg. All the humans are wearing the grey shirts. I see Gordon in SW corner of the Bar and avoid him. Mac sees 2 men at the table with Gordon that look a bit different. One wearing flexible leather, lighter plate armour called splint or briggadine armour.

Rowena comes over and we order drinks. SHE FLIRTS WITH GNORMAN.

Performance goes on, most people are engrossed in that. Some people notice us but not many. The knights with Ser Rodger are leaning in and whispering into his ear. One leaves to join a poker game.

Gordon is deep in conversation with the other man and the 2 out of place guys. E is keeping an eye out for anyone ordering Pork Pie.

Large man sits at the table behind us, says “i heard you have a very good pork pie” server says they’re almost out and he has to fetch it from the basement and goes towards the kitchen. He slyly handed a piece of paper to the large man. 5 minutes later gets up to take a leak.

Bouncer tries to keep G from following the man. Gets redirected to outside and has a slight confrontation with the bouncer. Mac redirects to the Half-elven man at the bar. Strikes up a conversation with Thresh the half-elf.  They toast to “Danger, coin, and Ladies”

Ser Rodger yells “get the fuck off me” and grabs the guard by the neck and slams him down to the bar. Rodger is swinging at the knights come up to him. Some people around the room stand up and are on guard. They’re all wearing Grey shirts!!
