Session Notes
A - trying to steal the book, put it in my bag 13 sleight of hand E and G both see me put this in my bag
G - knows once book was taken off shelf, there’s a magical record that it was taken off the shelf, since he used the bell to find it, it will show that he was the one to make the note
I put the book in my backpack
Mac - starting to find Colum, goes to Bailey’s Square, Colum is standing at doorstep at one of the nicer buildings in the area, speaking to Human woman. 19 insight she’s listening intently, warm smile gives way to intent listening, she starts to look worried as he continues speaking. She steps back to let him in the front door. Mac calls out to Colum, surprises him, Introduces Mac to Calisa Mantle (colleague and old friend) She didn’t know he had a daughter, been a LONG time since they las saw eachother. WIll be trying to stay around here for a while, has found some leads on lodging. Colum doesn’t want me to worry. Mac mentions the Pig Tail Tavern and Calisa is interested. “Pigtail tavern has recently shifted management due to some bad debts. Gonzo Nooks was the owner and seems to have lost it in a card game and gone back up to Hillock to be close to family. Shame, I liked that place”
Mac goes in when Calisa Mentions a pork roast. Very fine armour inside, not a lot of comfortable furniture.
A - let’s E and G know that Might is a good place to start looking for Lost Tomb and Weeping Wood.
Moss - walks up and tells us about the rumors going around about the prince. Doesn’t seem as cut and dry, this seems like a coordinated attack from the elves
Brevin shows up to relieve G, talks about the bad date he was just on, G lets him know that he was promoted to a procurement wizard, Says he will miss G and G gives him a vigorous, awkward hug.
We go to wait outside for Mac, he arrives 5-10 minutes later, tells me that Colum would like to see me before we leave the city.
Royal courier comes up to E from Ser Edmund, hands a letter and smallish unadorned box she knows to be a healers kit. Letter says “Dear emmeline, I know that you are on your way and I’m very excited for your journey. I wanted to make sure, because we have no need for them in the city that you are prepared in any way you may need. The roads have always been dangers but they are even more so during times of turmoil. You never know what will be hiding in the bushes. This is to account for the unseen. Ser Edmund Warrington, Kingsguard to King Volth Hollis PS. if you can let me know roughly where you are or where you’re headed, Send a carrier pigeon when you can I would like to know that you are doing well”
RULE FROM JESSE:
-
Long rest still functions normally, however healing from a short rest will require one use from a healers kit. One use per person per short rest.
-
Additional rules that will be introduced as they become relevant.
E - writes “thank you for always looking out for me and protecting me. I will try to remember your training, you’ve been a great mentor. I will write regularly so you know where I am and so you can send any updates on Rowan. Sincerely, Emmeline”
A heads off to find Colum, the rest of the party goes to Bailey Square to find lunch. I find the building Mac described and knock on the door. Calisa answers and introduces herself as Colum walks up. “This is Calisa, and old friend, has been in the guild longer than I have and will try to help me with lodging”
Colum is worried about me. “The danger in stories about adventurers is real. Send a bird, let me know if you need anything.” takes my smithing signet ring and pulls our a golden ring with a diamond on it. “It’s not for money, it’s for sentiment” Rhea’s wedding ring. I put it on my necklace with the moonstone pendant. Address: Calisa Mantle, 435 Highrise, Crestin
I head to Apex Gate to meet everyone
We head out to Oglet and come across people coming from Pennly, most traffic is leaving Crestin
Come across a town, good amount of Oarmen on the river. WE cross the bridge into Pennly around sunset. Do we want to find a place to stay or keep going? History checks - we are still in Crownfield, safest place in the country. Decide to continue on
Big dockworker town, main trade is people on the canal. Landscape turns pastoral, many flocks of sheep
Moonrise - survival check from A and Mac, Mac sees herd of deer in a bush, kills one and we process for one extra ration each
We approach Oglet around sunrise, there are pig pens on the outskirts, come across main street, wooden buildings, some stone. There’s a fortified building, not a castle, we know it as where the town guard is located and where they operate from. The lights are off at the tavern but we come across The Cottoneye Inn. Boys share, Moss and I share, and E is alone (pays with a platinum piece) Resco, the innkeeper gives us our keys.
Moss and Mac know it’s unusual that the Pig Tail is closed right now. We go to bed
Moss wakes up first and draws on my face - I rush downstairs and we playfully fight until I go back up to clean my face.
Perception checks knight comes in through the front door with his helmet down. Moss overhears conversation between him and the innkeeper “the work is still happening, keep watch, if you see anything strange or interesting let me know. We don’t need a disruption in the status quo, with the prince like he is, this is the time for organizations to strike. If you see something, say something” “of course, Ser Nadon” knight leaves
Gnome comes down and sits by G, the gnome notices his accent and they bond. Pennyworth introduces himself and they find out his mom is from the same area as G. G gets piss drunk off 2 beers and is dancing to Pennyworth, Moss, and Mac’s enjoyment.
E and I go outside to scope out the Pig Tail tavern and walk over in our Gambeson’s to check it out. Sign is just a photo of a pig’s tail
Building is a little worn, there are a couple people out front having a conversation. We walk into the open double doors, bar during the day is a little different than at night, smells like stale ale, years of spills. More traffic than the cottoneye inn. Around 20 people here, humans and halflings, smell of tobacco in the air, dim lighting. Big burly guy posted at a table playing a card game by himself, he clocks us. People eating lunch, one bartender working and a man in armour at the bar, we sit near him.
Bartender, Rowena, calls him Ser Rodger, he orders the same as he had. He buts into our conversation about knights doing paperwork “all for the birds”
Ser Rodger recognizes Ser Edmund and knows Emmeline. Doesn’t like Crestin, introduces himself as Ser Roger Corlin, E knows that he used to be a landed knight of Boggard, just south of Stonewash. He was dismissed by the new baron of Boggard after the Ferrin’s were taken out of the barony. Was loyal to the Ferrin’s and was thrown out with them as a result. Last thing she knew was that he was a landed knight of Boggard.
Ser Roger, “havent been a landed knight for a while, was thrown out with the attainder. I’m a errant knight once more. Found solace at the Pig’s tail, especially with NEW MANAGEMENT. Gonzo was here for a while, wasn’t great, pretty middling. There’s been a shifting of hands.” Flags down Rowena to ask about the change of hands “Gonzo defaulted on debts and the bar was taken by the Changers (central banking of the area) was sold to the highest bidder. My boss, Mr. Stuart Perch, took over management around a month or two ago. It was rather disgusting when we got it, a lot of maintenance that was ignored. Part of change of hands was renovations, including the rooms.” I ask “is that why you were closed this morning, for renovations” “yes, little short staffed so there is a need for rest. I work doubles most days” Roger “better looking than the last wench (Rowena takes offence) sorry, barmaid, so posh over here, much simpler in Boggard. Been in Oglet about a fortnight, looking for guard work. Not much to be guardidng around here especially for an unlanded knight. Not much use for prestige in the ranks.” he asks where I’m from says “you’re in it, closer to heath than not.”
Mac goes to scope out the town, G goes up for a nap, Moss stays there to see if anything happens
Mac - not a lot going on in town, on the Primflow river, good amount of travelers, halfling population is greater than Crestin, still a minority but quite a bit more. Main points of interest are guard tower, town hall, large building farmers are bringing pigs into out to the west, off main thoroughfare, can hear squealing, likely slaughterhouse.
Moss collects things to prepare for the day, Mac comes back
Ser Roger “real problem with that baron Niles, has no idea how things work in the real world” slams table, Rowena tries to cut him off. Roger fights it and is approached by big guy and two others, seem like security, talks back to them, “I can take you cunts anytime, leave me alone to drink this piss”
We get up to leave, vibe is ruined by Ser Roger’s putrid attitude horrible perception rolls
Leave and meet back at the Inn, G just woke up from his morning bender, eating stale bread he found under the bed. Mac comes in to gather G
E and I get our equipment and we decide as a group to bide our time until the tavern gets busy this evening.
