Session Notes

Macheath Longfellow is traveling with Ser Norman’s retinue and is looking for provisions alone in the woods. Near the Haffles

There is a fire at the camp and Mac fights with Goblins and a Bugbear, they are killing Ser Norman

Ser Norman tells him to go to Crestin to find Ser Edmund - he was going to knight Mac once they got there. Has an envelope to give to Ser Edmund.

Norman gives him a ring and tells him to wear it - it’s a heavy iron ring with a square engraving on it - represents Norman’s sigil.

Norman knights Mac before he dies - the ring glows as he finishes knighting Mac

White Branch Town Market - early morning market that is starting to wake up.

Cart that is full of goods and provisions with another one next to it - not attached to a horse. Small sandy blonde halfling man that is loading provisions onto horseless cart

Ayana is working with halfling to fill up the cart - rope, torches, and fishing line, as well as water and food

Pulls out book with wax seals and stamps on it - takes candle that was on his cart already and drops the wax on the book and I stamp my guild ring in it.

Part of my training is to push the cart myself around town. I take off my bladed maul and go under the yoke to push the cart back to the smith’s **20 athletics check

I have one more errand - stop in front of a shop called Shining Oddities - Colum sources gems from across the kingdom for  jewelry.

Dark room with filtering sunlight - collections of sparkling gems all hanging on a back wall. I approach the case.

Human worker - dressed nicely. I have known him since my childhood, Geoffrey.

Emerges from back room with small wooden box 15 investigation check

  • lunch box sized, intricate carvings made well
  • looks dwarven but they are more known for masonry and metallurgy so not woodworking
  • This is neat, clean, functional, and beautiful - it’s Gnomish.

As he puts the box down I casually put the quill in his breast pocket 22 intimidate check, I freak him out and stamp the ledger for the box

I continue on to the Smithy - the day has truly started now. Make it to the Artisan’s section of town. Sign that says “Agus, Arden, & Arms” outside the Smithy. I put the cart down and there is a commotion.

Procession of riders - they are elvish. From the Vardominal Confederation. My Uncle, Celethorn, bright shining silver hair, scale mail armour, elven longsword, atop his white and gold horse.

Colum Agus, Remus Arden, and Shonag Agus come out to greet him and we all head inside the smithy.

Remus is saying that he’ll probably stay home 9 insight check he was excited before. Shonag and I make fun of him because there’s a girl he likes.

Moss gets on stage - does a performance and a drunken man tries to steal her money.

Mac is there and stops the drunkard - (do they know each other beforehand?I don’t think so)

They have a drink together - Gnome and Halfling owners (did Jesse give them names?) that sit on each other’s shoulders to serve customers

Moss sees a procession of elves walking by outside

Ayana is in the procession - been a week since we left White Branch. Lodgings we’ve stayed in have been lacking up until now. Spoke Inn is most famous in area, reputation for comfort and amenities

Waning Gibbous moon rising - around 10pm but the night market is bustling

I walk up to the host desk, there’s a pimply faced teen there that’s sleepy. I get one room for Colum and I, it costs 5 sp

I sit at the bar and strike a conversation with Moss - “you are my oldest friend”. I say it genuinely but am hurt that Moss pretended to not know me.

19 insight check I understand that she’s been hiding for a couple years and hasn’t had an opportunity to make friends or connect with people. I don’t take it personally, Moss was an outsider when we were kids so I understand where she’s coming from.

Ayana offers both Moss and Mac rides on our cart to Crestin. Need to check with Colum

Outside of the City walls are the tourney yards, archery, melee, and the tent pavilion.

Super handsome Prince on a dais - Emmeline Windgale is next to him, is a distant cousin of his

Prince Rowan of Hollisen - favorite cousin of Emmeline’s and the feeling is mutual

He says “when I’m king you will be able to wear whatever you wish” (this includes the royal purple colors) She doesn’t believe him.

Emmeline is a bastard child of an embarrassing cousin 

“He is going to be here” - who is He???

Rowan has been writing with “him” - GAY?!?!?!

Letter to Prince Rowan in SECRET COMPARTMENT

  • “Your grace, the time of our reunion is near at hand. I have thought of your face every morning and seen it in every cloud across the sky. Nary shall i say that the moon is as beautiful as your face and found it false. May our lances meet again. - C”

“The only love letters should be coming from me” Queen Thalia Hollis - Rowan’s mother, doesn’t approve of Emmeline being there

As Emmeline leaves, she bumps into the KING

Her mentor is one of the king’s guard and is surprised to see her there - Ser Edmund

There are already rumors about the prince - calling his cousin to his side in public could be seen negatively

Ser Edmund and Emmeline leave - “you are growing into a fine (exceptional) Squire, you are able to predict what is needed before it is needed. I have become lax in your training. Would like you to go out into the world to earn the honor of a Damehood (female knight). Waiting on arrival of dear friend I’ve been conspiring with. He has his own squire - not much to do. Ser Norman has become fat and has no need to put his armour on. His squire Macheath and you are in similar situations.”

Mac shows up as if summoned by magic

Ser Edmund and Mac greet eachother and both their rings glow blue - EMMELINE DOESN”T SEE THE RINGS GLOW

Ser Edmund calls him Ser Macheath

Mac tells him of what happened - not a lot of people believe that Goblins exist, not a precedent for goblin attacks, usually either a “boy who cried wolf” lie or heard about them in fairy tales

To Emmeline - this sounds like a made up story but Edmund is accepting it as truth

Edmund “there have been strange stories coming out of the Haffles of late … seems that with the mark of the millennium, the kingdom is in for an age of hardship it hasn’t seen since it’s founding… Ser Norman and I thought it best if the two of you would team up and travel across the land to aid in any hardships that come to the common people, to help the realm. Find a party that will have your back on the road, hire a wizard and one of the gods blessed. Wizard for utility and the other for healing help. There is no loss of honor in traveling with help it allows you to do good.”

Emmeline hears shout from behind - prince Rowan leaves the pavilion and rides off on his horse towards the joust.

Edmund “do you accept this task that we have laid before you?”

Emmeline knows that she needs to earn her spot as a kingsguard but will miss her cousin. She knows she has to do this.

Edmund “go and find a party - after the tourney there will be a need for you on the road”

Fly a short distance over the tourney grounds to a line of booths looking at the events. Zoom in on a tall-ish human - Tall Gnorman

Skinny and average height - long greasy black hair, dark shifty eyes.

He’s about to get fired if he doesn’t get back to work in 10 minutes, as he’s leaving the joust he bet on starts - he wins 1 GOLD!!

He bets 5gp on Celethorn going against Prince Rowan

They’re about to start when Emmeline shows up

She prevents him from falling on the library stairs and helps to pick up his books

They walk up to Mac who is standing next to Moss & Ayana to watch Rowan vs Celethorn

Mac - is just having a good time

Gnorman - this is the closest he’s been to Prince Rowan, super handsome (looks like Henry Cavill)

Emmeline - same realization, this is the guy you’ve been hearing about - this is C

Ayana - nat 20 gives me insight in only a way that is matched in emmeline’s deep comfortability with her cousin, struck with a sense that i know this man, this is the guy i’ve been hearing about, i don’t see Celethorn very often but we’ve spent 2 weeks on the road bonding and picking his brain, he’s been cryptic about his love life. Celethorn is an important elf, playing cards close to his chest. I see on Rowan’s face familiarity, comfortability, ease and joy, i’m one of the only people that knows who celethorn really is.

Shift in Celethorn’s seat, he lowers in his seat to use the trunk of his body more, the javelin goes into the side of Prince Rowan

Emmeline charges forward towards the prince, gets there the same time as the medic

The medic is flustered and I rush forward

I try to pull the javelin out but only 10 sleight of hand check DC was 20 

Archbishop goes forward to heal the prince - he sits up and looks dazed but stands on his own

Rowan brushes off his mom and Kingsguard - Rowan walks up to shake his hand and they raise their hands up in show of good sportsmanship

Rowan walks up to Emmeline and thanks her and Ayana

Ayana says “I could never allow my uncle’s name be besmirched in such a way”

The Prince bends down (bows?) He staggers after straightening, looks rougher than A would expect after being healed.

Gnorman sees a look across his face that was dazed but is now scared. We watch as prince rowan bows, stands up then falters and breathes heavily

Something is wrong

A reaches out and expend all 5 Lay on hands HP to neutralize a poison

Prince Rowan’s breathing steadies

Still breathing hard, grabs his heart - eyes bulge out and he collapses

Ayana casts divine sense, the prince is fine - weak fey energy coming from Moss and trace fey from all elves 

Queen accuses Celethorn and he looks unknowing and shocked, even more worried, she commands the kingsguard to arrest Celethorn
